We cater for children from Year 1 to Year 6. We have the advantage of having Selwyn Park Kindergarten right next door so we often work closely with them.
We are a family oriented school and the concept of Whanau is an important part of our school philosophy.
Selwyn Park School is a Health Promoting School. We have our own school garden, which the children as part of their class programmes grow, care for, harvest and consume the produce.
Tena Koutou, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Kia Orana, Bula Vinaka, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Namaste, Taloha ni and warm greetings to you all!
At our core, we want all of our tamariki (kids) to do well in Kura (school). Students are encouraged to do their best and personal achievement is seen as a core value in our school culture. The routines here at Selwyn Park School are carefully planned to help students grow by teaching them to take responsibility for their actions and do everything with a whole-hearted approach.
The teachers at Selwyn Park School are experts in their fields and love what they do. They get a lot of joy from working with our tamariki. In the same way that children and their parents choose Selwyn Park school. Parents and students often say how much they appreciate how hard our teachers work for them, whether it's by encouraging energy and creativity in the classroom, helping students be persistent and independent in their learning habits, or organising learning outside of the classroom and planning our yearly school Hikoi along the westcoast.
My educational philosophy revolves around prioritising the student as the central figure, ensuring their active involvement, intellectual stimulation, and empowerment in the learning process. I believe that teachers are the most invaluable asset a school can possess, and they should be provided with support, recognition, and motivation. Additionally, I emphasise the significance of strong connections between students, schools, and parents, with a focus on establishing relational trust, as this is crucial for optimal learning outcomes.
I strongly encourage parents and whanau to actively engage in their children's education. It is important to establish a relationship with your child's class teacher, make regular visits to the school, establish connections with the school, and actively participate in school activities. By doing so, you will enhance your child's chances of achieving academic success.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I am writing to share a serious safety concern following an incident that occurred during student pick-up on Friday, 18 July 2025.
A child ran across the road to meet their parent, who was parked on the opposite side of the street. Another parent, driving through the area, had to brake suddenly to avoid hitting the child. Thankfully, no one was injured but the outcome could have been tragic. This was a preventable incident.
We urge all parents to always accompany their children when crossing the road and to use the school’s designated pick-up and drop-off areas.
We also remind you that the staff car park is a restricted area. It lacks safe turning space and reversing in this area increases the risk of accidents involving children and pedestrians.
Student safety is our highest priority. Incidents like this are avoidable, and we all have a role to play. The school has a zero-tolerance policy towards any actions that put children at risk.
Our staff are focused on supervision and essential duties during these busy times. We need your full cooperation to ensure the safety of all students.
Please:
· Do not allow your child to cross the road alone or unsafely
· Use only the designated pick-up and drop-off areas
· Remain alert and patient during school traffic periods
This is a shared responsibility. Let’s all act with care, caution, and respect to protect our tamariki. We are calling on every member of our school community to act with care, caution and respect for others.
Working together, we can keep our students safe
Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter.
Ngā mihi,
